Guidelines:
Selecting proposals to be funded, from what may well be a group of many deserving applications, is a difficult, but exciting challenge. Here are some suggestions that may help:
- The proposed project should be clearly stated and neatly written.
- Porjects should directly involve students.
- Special needs applications are welcome.
- Mini-Grants can be used to compensate resource persons who work directly with students. Teachers and/or staff are not eligible for compensation.
- Mini-Grants can be used to purchase equipment or to provide field trip transportation. Equipment and trips should be one component of a well-planned project that is integrated with other curriculum materials and activities.
- Mini-Grants funds will not be provided for any food associated with projects.
- Technology software requests must be complimentary to the district technology plan. Technology hardware wil not be purchased by NCEF.
- Proposals that incorporate matching funds or community resources should be looked on favorably. Such outside contributions are a sign of commitment to the project and they multiply the effectiveness of the small grant award.
- Interdisciplinary or team-teaching projects are desirable. These often have grater impact than single-classroom efforts, fill unmet needs in regular curriculum and we encourage more grant applications in the future.
- Mini-Grant funding request shall not exceed $2,500.
- Each grant winner is required to complete a brief post-activity evaluation.
